Primary 7 were very excited this week to start tin whistle lessons with Ms McKinny. It was encouraging to see so many pupils buying or bringing their own tin whistle to school on Tuesday. The pupils really enjoyed this opportunity and were very impressed by Ms McKinny's musical talents. Primary 7's are learning how to play "Nil Sé Na Lá" a traditional Irish song.
There are many studies that suggest learning and listening to music is a great stress relieving tool that helps to calm the mind and enhance concentration. It has encouraged P7 to manage their feelings better by expressing their emotions through the instrument they are playing. There is undoubtedly a great sense of confidence building within the P7 class as they take on the challege of learning a new instrument and it is clear that we have a number of aspiring young musicians among us.
